For some cars, 200 km / h is the limit, others will fly by it in passing and will not even notice. Let’s see together how modern cars are adapted to travel at a speed of 200 km / h. Is it convenient to fly faster than the Swift in the modern car and what possible inconvenience motorists waiting at the same time.

Previously, everything was different. Not so long ago, accelerate to a speed of 200 km / h – it was like breaking the sound barrier! Few cars have succeeded. And who still was lucky to get a similar car, did not feel a special comfort, know, watch the behavior of the car on the road, and then what good you will fly away from it. Hmm, in the 90’s, I had to be nervous very seriously, sweaty hands on the steering wheel, a focused look, a sense of danger. Now also? Or has everything changed? Let’s deal with it.

Today everything is different. At least from a technical point of view. At present, new generation cars, at least from Europe and America, with a capacity of more than 140 hp. and with the correct aerodynamics (sedans, convertibles, coupe, station wagons) are able to move this magic figure. Several tens of seconds of intense acceleration, and now the speedometer needle lies at 200 km / h. Yes there, even a small hatch Opel Corsa OPS today can fly 230 km / h. Moreover, even buses like VW T6 2.0 TDI on the passport have a maximum of more than 203 km / h, and the noise of howling wind outside the window will not bother.

But all these indicators remain on paper. In the sense that many cars are capable of overcoming the magic barrier at the flight of forces, but what’s next? Will they be able to drive in this mode for a long time without driving their passengers crazy? After all, physics can not be changed, there are aerodynamic limitations. The resistance of the air increases at times, after all, the physiology of man is not always able to withstand the race, if the car does not have sufficient or excellent controllability. Factors affecting comfort are numerous. This, as we have already said, and air resistance and the car’s braking system, the driving stability, the responsiveness of the driver …

Do not forget that the car flying at a speed of 200 km / h for 1 second overcomes 55 m / s. This is not a joke!

And so, the alignment of forces is clear. Hence the conclusion is that not every driver in a particular car will cope with the task.

In this story we are interested in the theme of what happens to cars at a speed of 200 km / h. How much can modern technology withstand this speed? How does the driver feel at this moment? And more importantly, how much fuel will be burned during such arrivals?

Ten cars are participating in the testing, from the second-hand Mercedes-Benz model C 180 with a run of 420 thousand km, to the supersport-580 strong Porsche 911 Turbo S. All of them passed measurements on the level of noise in the cabin, fuel consumption and braking from the speed.

Levels of measurements were different. For the old Mercedes, some indulgences were made in the exercise “braking”, for the powerful American pickup Dodge Ram, the maximum speed threshold was reduced to 195 km / h (for safety reasons). The Mercedes-Benz V-Class encountered difficulties in overclocking up to 200 km / h on the test 2.6 km range. The main thing is that the discrepancy in the performance of different cars was within the margin of error, so we can talk about the objectivity of the competition.

Additional measurement values: ten candidates should at least prove the possibility of their acceleration under different conditions. Accuracy of the speedometer was determined using GPS technology, also an important role in the study played engine speed at a given speed. In addition to the dynamics from 0 to 200 km / h, the acceleration time from 130 to 200 km / h was measured. Subjectively, the noise and straightness of the motion were evaluated.
