Uric acid, a waste of the body
Uric acid is a waste eliminated by our body. It results from the degradation of purines, molecules useful for the proper functioning of the organism. Purines are very common in beer and crustaceans, as well as in meat and other foods. In people consuming a lot of foods rich in purines, the kidneys fail to eliminate any uric acid produced. Uric acid is present in too great a quantity in the blood, this is called hyperuricemia.
From high uric acid to gout attack
Over the years, uric acid accumulates and crystals of sodium urate form. These crystals are housed in different parts of the body, especially in the joints. They cause joint inflammation and pain that recall arthritis: it is the gout attack. The gout can affect several joints, but it is the big toe that is most often concerned. In the case of a gout attack, analgesics and anti-inflammatories are prescribed to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. Dietetic measures are needed to avoid crises, including limited consumption of foods rich in purines.
